About Us

Hi, we are Paula & Stephen Pepperell, a couple of ordinary Kiwis enjoying an adventure. We cast off the shackles of our previous existence in the daily rat race, and like so many New Zealanders, the yearning for the great outdoors and ‘messing about in boats’ runs in our veins.

It all started as a dream, then we made it a goal…. and now finally we are living it. It would require some sacrifices along the way. We gave up successful businesses, a beautiful home, and a comfortable lifestyle, sharing time with the family and good friends.

We opted instead for a lifestyle where you wash your clothes by hand, have no iron or dishwasher, have to conserve water, live in within a usable space less than 35 x 11’, with limited access to modern communication…. Actually, a bit like the vast majority of the people we have met so far!

Now, five years down the track, our lives have been completely changed. We have learned a lot about the people we share our planet with. Their way of life and some of the huge disparities that exist. And we understand better the relationships (ours included) that bind us all together.

We have learned the importance of tolerance and patience, and the need for planning and self-reliance, particularly when we are at sea.
